3 About LIVE Students. Who Are They?

Live-streamed course students will consist of various individuals, including full-time students, part-time students with full-time jobs, parents, life-long learners, and individuals seeking flexibility in their education.  They have made the choice to pursue their university education while remaining in their respective communities. In terms of demographics, the majority of LIVE-streamed students are female, accounting for approximately 80% of the student population. The largest age group consists of students under the age of 25, followed by those between the ages of 26 and 35.

Regional Colleges and wide provincial reach

Each LIVE-streamed course could have off-campus students located at approximately 40 sites across various locations in the province. These sites are identified by their own section number and course reference number. The province is well-represented, with main areas including Arcola, Broadview, Buffalo Narrows, Creighton, Regina, Estevan, Humbolt, Ile a la Cross, Kahkewistahaw, La Ronge, Meadow Lake, Melfort, Moose Jaw, Nipawin, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Tisdale, Watrous, White Bear, Weyburn, Yorkton, as well as YOURHOME section students (0R7).

Site Attendants & Students Gathering toGether at a Regional College

Regional Colleges require support staff to access your URCourses site, aiming to offer academic assistance to Regional College students enrolled in LIVE courses. These individuals will be assigned the role of “Invited Guest” within URCourses. This role functions similarly to that of a student but will not be included in the grade book.

It’s important to note that while there are minimum technical requirements for teaching and learning in this delivery method (refer to key resources below), some students in remote locations may encounter difficulties and should communicate with their instructors for guidance. Additionally, certain Regional Colleges may provide physical rooms within their premises for students who prefer to gather and participate as a group.

Key Takeaways

  • Some students will gather in small groups at Regional Colleges, fostering a sense of learning community.
  • Many students may face technological challenges related to internet access and equipment due to location. Patience and understanding are crucial.
  • The U of R has established basic computer technical requirements for optimal participation in the courses.
