Step 2 – Develop Module Prototype

Step 2 Design

The second step is to create a course blueprint. This course blueprint could be created in a document or directly in UR Courses.

  • The Course Developer provides a representative module to the ID team (one that they feel comfortable developing first that would have the majority of elements they expect other modules to have). This will be used to determine organization of content within the module which may include
    • Overview (introduction, objectives, reading list, etc)
    • Content
    • Activities
    • Assessments
    • Summary
  • The Course Developer or ID team uploads content from the representative module to UR Courses  – deciding on the overall layout of course, including division of course components into “topics”
    • unit/module topics (grouped by subject and related assessments, activities, etc)
    • weekly topics
    • thematic topics (Course content, Group work, assignments/Quizzes, Forums, etc.)
  • ID Team provides feedback on the representative module, including potential activities, enhancements, needed elements, instructions, and potential issues with flow.
  • The Course Developer and ID team decide on formatting and layout within the representative module
    • blocks and boxes
    • breaking up content visually
    • emphasizing or highlighting content
    • visual appeal
    • addressing accessibility (image descriptions, supporting screen readers, transcripts for audio and video, colour issues, etc)
  • Develop a course blueprint to rough out the remaining modules and the overall course to be able to see both individual units and the course overall. This will include
    • topics/content to be covered
    • learning objectives, guiding questions, or goals
    • known resources to be included or developed, include notes of what needs copyright clearance
    • activities, both graded and non-graded (lectures, readings, discussions, assignments)
    • The blank worksheet provides a framework to fill in
