  • Self-Publishing Guide is now an ongoing resource to which information will be updated as needed. Each chapter includes a “Page added | Last update” textbox near the bottom of the page. This change from static to ongoing resource provides BCcampus with the flexibility to keep this guide current and relevant.

BCOpen Community Email

The BCOpen community of practice email group is for anyone in the B.C. post-secondary sector whose work involves open educational resources, open pedagogy, or open education in general. Members can ask questions about open education, promote OER projects, post opportunities and events, and ask for ideas about resources and pedagogy. To join submit a request on the BCOpen Info page.

Adoption Finder

Instructors can now more easily find open textbooks that best fit their curriculum with the Adoption Finder, a new tool that helps identify open textbooks used at colleges, institutes, and universities in B.C.

  • Pressbooks files for OpenStax books are being retired from the B.C. Open Textbook Collection. In line with this move, Appendix C in the Pressbook Guide has been updated and renamed: “Editable OpenStax Textbooks.”

The following BCcampus Open Education funded projects have completed.

  • OE Foundation Grant – CotR/Selkirk – nursing videos (where posted)
  • OE Sustainability grant – Camosun: completed with highlights

New features and activities related to the B.C. Open Textbook Collection

The Suggest an Open Textbook for the Collection page and form have been revised. They now include:

  • A clear layout of the process used when evaluating a suggested textbook.
  • An updated list of both required and preferred criteria for suggested books.
  • An accessible form that follows the criteria for books being considered for the B.C. Open Collection.

The Rebus Foundation is based in Montreal, Quebec, and acts as an advocate and champion for new publishing models and technologies. Part of the Rebus Foundation mission is to advocate for and share great ideas, resources, and publications about openness. Rebus hosts regular office hours on various topics related to open publishing, maintains several guides to writing open textbooks, and hosts the Rebus Community for collaborative open textbook creation and problem-solving.
