Case Study 1: Lessons Learned from an Open Education Librarian
Cheryl (Cuillier) Casey is the Open Education Librarian at the University of Arizona (UA). She leads OER initiatives for the UA Libraries and manages the UA’s Pressbooks network. She is also an instructor for the Open Education Network’s Certificate in OER Librarianship and a trainer for the OEN.
Case Study 2: Two Sides of the Same Coin: A Tale of Two OER Initiatives
Regina Gong is the OER & Student Success Librarian at Michigan State University (MSU) Libraries. In her role at MSU, Regina leads and oversees the OER program, including the OER award and the OER publishing services. She is actively involved in the open education community and has done numerous national presentations, keynotes, webinars, and workshops on OER, open education, open educational practices, and Women of Color in OER (#WoCinOER). Regina currently serves as faculty for the American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) Institute for Open Educational Resources. She also provides leadership as chair of the statewide Michigan OER Network (MI-OER)—a community of practice and a coalition of OER advocates across K-20 in Michigan. Case Study 3: Building the Roller Coaster While Riding It: OER at Oregon Institute of Technology
Dawn Lowe-Wincentsen is the Associate Dean of Library and Learning Resources at Shoreline Community College in Washington state. Dawn is a strong supporter of open education and student led design. In 2018, she started an open education program at Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, and Portland, Oregon. In 2020, Dawn completed to Open Education Network Certificate in OER Librarianship.
Case Study 4: Integrating OER Programming into Institutional Norms at Pierce College
Quill West is the Open Education Project Manager at Pierce College, Washington. In this position, Quill works to grow the use of open practices, especially those that help break down barriers between learners and their goals. Quill is an advocate for student-centered learning and is committed to further equity, diversity, and inclusion in OER and the open education field.
Case Study 5: Creating a Reusable OER Training Program at UH Manoa
Billy Meinke is a settler on Native Hawaiian land, surfer, dad, and PhD student in the Futures Studies program in the Department of Political Science at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. His research examines the intersections of technology and intellectual property rights in the context of scholarly collaboration and student data privacy. James Glapa-Grossklag is Dean, Educational Technology, Learning Resources, and Distance Learning at College of the Canyons (CA). His service in Open Education has included: Board President of Open Education Global, Board President of the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources, and Ambassador for Global OER Advocacy for the International Council for Open & Distance Education. He co-coordinated Technical Assistance for the California Zero Textbook Cost degree program, was OER Fellow for the Michelson 20MM Foundation, and a Faculty member for the AAC&U Institute on OER. Case Study 7: Evolving Manifold Scholarship: From Monographs to OER
Jojo Karlin (she/her) is the Digital Scholarship Specialist at New York University. She received her PhD in English from the Graduate Center, CUNY, where she was the Manifold Graduate Fellow, and won the 2021 Dissertation Showcase prize for her illustrated dissertation, Yours Sincerely, Virginia Woolf: Virginia Woolf’s Poetics of Letter Writing. She serves on the Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy Editorial Collective. At NYU Libraries, she works on open scholarship and digital humanities and has been developing her practice of visual notetaking and conference illustration on Twitter @jojokarlin.
Krystyna Michael is an Assistant Professor of English at the City University of New York, Hostos Community College. She is on the development team for Manifold, an Andrew W. Mellon-funded digital publishing platform, and a member of the editorial collective of The Journal of Instructional Technology and Pedagogy. Michael’s teaching and scholarship revolves around 19th-Century American literature and writing, the digital humanities, and architecture and city space. She has published articles and reviews in The Edith Wharton Review, The Journal of American Studies, and Postmedieval.
Robin Miller is an Open Educational Technology Specialist and member of The Graduate Center Digital Initiatives (GCDI) Team at The Graduate Center, The City University of New York (CUNY). In this role, Robin provides training and support for OER and Open Access (OA) project creation on Manifold, an Andrew W. Mellon-funded digital publishing platform, to students, faculty, and staff across CUNY’s 25 campuses and to the larger Manifold community.
