For those of us teaching sensitive topics – like we almost inevitably do in this subject matter – trigger or content warnings are a really good idea. Here’s a comic explaining them. Here’s the guide for writing them (examples toward the end) that linked the comic in the first place.

In my English class, I put specific content warnings (e.g., “graphic violence” or “suicide” or “references to sexual assault”) on the readings in Calendar view and on the assignments that link the readings.

My students have certainly appreciated these, as pointing them out has led to more than a few illuminating conversations with them!
